William J McEvoy Jr (90) of Brick NJ passed away peacefully on November 8th, 2023.
Bill was born on August 3, 1933 and raised in Dunellen NJ by his parents William and Mary McEvoy. He attended high school at St Peter's in New Brunswick where he met his future bride Lillian Welding. Bill went on to enlist in the US Navy. He completed an around the world Cruise aboard the USS Caperton and served in the Korean theater in 1953. Bill and Lillian were married in St Peter's Church in New Brunswick on March 6th 1955. They resided in Piscataway NJ before relocating to the Seawood Harbor neighborhood along Barnegat Bay in the mid 1980s. He worked as a union electrician for IBEW local 456 of North Brunswick for well over 30 years. After retiring he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Catholic Charities. In 2005, he received the New Jersey governor's award in human resources from former governor Richard J Cody. He also volunteered time for the Piscataway Little League. He loved fishing in Barnegat Bay and the offshore waters.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lillian, and his sister Claire Donovan of Piscataway. He is survived by his oldest son William F. McEvoy (Anastasia Kalcheff) of Virginia Beach VA, his twin daughters Lillian Pontis (Robert Pontis Jr.) of Hopewell PA, and Lee Rob'ert (Jamie Rob'ert) of New Orleans, LA and his youngest son Joe McEvoy of Belmar, NJ, as well as his sister Joan Ficke of Piscataway, nine grandchildren and one great grandson.
Viewing will take place on Tuesday, November 14th at Sheenan funeral home of Dunellen from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, November 15th at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church of Dunellen starting at noon. On Thursday, November 16th, a graveside service with military honors will take place at Monmouth Memorial Park in Neptune at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers it is requested donations be made to St Jude's children's research hospital. The family of William J McEvoy Jr. wishes to extend a special thanks to Hackensack Meridian Hospital of Brick, their CCU and hospice care professionals, his caregiver, and friends and neighbors of Seawood Harbor who looked out for him in his advanced years.
