Thomas M. McCann, Sr. Obituary
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Thomas M. McCann, Sr., 90, passed away at his Piscataway home of more than 50 years on April 1, 2021.
Mr. McCann was born in New Rochelle, N.Y., on October 31, 1930, to the late James D. and Margaret [McGowan] McCann. As a young man, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where his four years of service as an Airman First Class included participation in the Korean War. Upon completion of his service, Mr. McCann attended RCA Institute in New York City and Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, both under the GI Bill. Mr. McCann then joined Lockheed Electronics as an engineer, where he remained a faithful employee for thirty years.
Mr. McCann was pre-deceased in 1981 by his wife, the former Katherine McGovern, whom he married in 1957. He is survived by the couple’s four children: Mrs. Katherine [Daniel] Farrell of Westfield, Ind.; Mr. Thomas M. [Debra] McCann, Jr., of Kendall Park; Mr. Kevin [Janet] McCann of Durham, NC; and Mr. Steven McCann of Wallingford, Penn. He also is survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Mr. McCann was a practicing Catholic, whose Christian values and faith he incorporated into his daily life. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Piscataway for more than 45 years. He also served senior citizens in his community through preparation of their income taxes.
A private memorial service for family members will precede a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church on April 8. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.
Mr. McCann was an avid reader, and frequented the John F. Kennedy Library in Piscataway, especially in his later years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the library (500 Hoes Lane, Piscataway, 08854) in Mr. McCann’s memory.
