Thomas D. Blankenship, 70, a long-time resident of Dunellen, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital-Somerset in Somerville surrounded by his loving family. Born in South Charleston, WV, Tom was the son of David Blankenship and Juanita Thomas of that city and was one of a large family of children. He graduated from high school in West Virginia and came to New Jersey in 1972 where he worked first in several manufacturing jobs and ultimately began and operated for many years a landscape contracting business located in Dunellen and covering Central New Jersey. While here, he met and married Michele Testa, his wife, who survives him.
Tom enjoyed and was skilled at all things mechanical and took pride in doing much of the needed work himself for his business vehicles and landscaping equipment. There was no task or project in that field that he found too daunting. He also enjoyed travelling to various destinations including road trips to Virginia Beach, various spots in Pennsylvania and back to his native West Virginia.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, brother and uncle. He was predeceased by his parents and survived by his wife, Michele, brothers, Jim and Jack, sisters Kay and Patty, three sons, Tom, David and Paul by a former marriage, and nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, February 21st from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave, Dunellen, NJ 08812. Prayers will be offered at the conclusion of that time with cremation to take place privately. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 9 Lamington Road, Branchburg, NJ 08876 (908) 526-2600.
