It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas W. Laurita (“Tommy”), who died recently at his home in New Jersey.
Born in Livingston to James Laurita and Jodi McGuire, Tommy grew up with a sharp mind and a vivid imagination. He was a gifted writer and storyteller who entertained, surprised, and drew people in. Clever and quick-witted, he was incredibly funny, often lighting up a room with his impressions and humor.
Tommy was never one to hold back his opinions — and not everyone agreed with him, which often made life and relationships more difficult. But those who knew him best understood that, beneath it all, what he truly wanted was love and connection. And we loved him — always did, and always will. His family will miss him desperately, and his face will remain in our hearts and minds forever.
From a young age, Tommy loved playing soccer — a passion he carried with him at Seton Hall Prep, where he attended high school, before continuing his education at Rowan University. His intellect and creativity later led him into the comedy scene in New Jersey and New York City, where he not only performed but also promoted shows, helping bring new voices to the stage. He always felt at home entertaining others, letting his humor, imagination, and storytelling shine.
Tommy also loved movies — especially Star Wars and Superman. He became a passionate collector and had a gift for finding deeper meaning in the characters and worlds he admired.
For many years, Tommy lived with his father and helped care for him when he was sick. He sadly predeceased his father, who passed just days later.
Tommy is survived by his mother, Josephine McGuire Laurita Gardiner; his sister, Anne Marie Murray; his brother, Jimmy Laurita; his brother-in-law, Jeff Murray; his sister-in-law Julia Laurita, and his beloved nephew, Luke, whom he adored. He is also remembered with love by his extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Please join us on September 13, 2025, to honor his life. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation on Saturday, September 13th from 8:30AM to 10:30AM at Sheenan Funeral Home, followed by his funeral mass at 11:00AM at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Dunellen. Burial will be private.
Tommy will be remembered for his humor, his imagination, and the way he made people laugh. His stories, his laughter, and his face will remain in our hearts forever, living on in those who loved him.
