Thomas Guldin Obituary

Thomas Steven Guldin, 73, a longtime resident of Dunellen and most recently a resident of Watchung, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 8 in Somerville.

Tom was born in Allentown, PA to Betty and Kenneth Guldin on December 12, 1948. He grew up in Berks County, PA, and spent his youth hunting, fishing and caddying at a local golf course. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in engineering and, on January 29, 1972, married Susan Steinmetz in Kutztown, PA. Tom and Susan then moved to New Jersey where Tom began working as a civil engineer. In the 1990s, Tom started his own engineering firm, Stetler & Guldin Engineering, which he owned and operated for decades, and later owned and operated a family enterprise, Lilli’s Ice Cream Parlor in Warren, NJ. Stetler & Guldin Engineering provided engineering services to many municipalities throughout the State,
including most notably Monroe, Mantoloking, and Andover townships. In 2012, Tom was honored with the Municipal Engineer of the Year Award by the NJ Society of Municipal Engineers. Tom later sold his businesses and finished his professional career as the City Engineer for New Brunswick until his retirement in May 2017, although even after retirement he
continued to consult on construction projects as a member of the condominium board where he lived.

Tom spent his retirement enjoying time with his family and beloved grandchildren, and most recently in January 2022 celebrated his 50-year wedding anniversary with Susan.

Tom is preceded in death by his loving daughter, Bethany Ann Guldin (dec. Feb, 2012). Tom is survived by his wife, Susan J. Guldin; his son Jonathan and wife Mary, of Verona; his son
Matthew and wife Diana, of South Plainfield; his son Gregory (and grand dog Tucker Phelps) of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren Emily Beth, Molly Catherine, Julia Taylor, Elliott Thomas and Lilah Beth; and brother Glenn Guldin and sister Gail Henderson and their respective families.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to https://www.unicefusa.org/ to help Ukrainian children in the current conflict. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Drs. Oxana
