Suzanne Shaughnessy Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Suzanne Shaughnessy, 87, of
Bound Brook, New Jersey, on January 31st . She was born in West Pittston in 1937 to Patrick
and Mary Shaughnessy, where she grew up with her 3 brothers John, Jay and Edward.
Following her graduation from West Pittston High School, Suzanne furthered her education
and earned her degree from Misericordia University. Shortly after, in 1960, she began her
career as an English teacher at Middlesex High School, where she taught for 38 years
before opting to retire in 1998. The many lifetime friendships that were formed quickly
turned into her extended family. Sue’s home was a gathering place for all and welcomed
each with warm hugs. Following retirement, she enjoyed travelling the world with friends and
cherished all the laughs and memories that were made. While having no children of her own,
Sue was a devoted Aunt to her brother Edward’s son, Patrick, and her brother John’s son,
Daniel. Also to Edward’s stepchildren: Kristin Perone, married to Michael; Robert Chabot,
married to Barbara; and Maureen Traute, married to Robert. She enjoyed spending time
with great nieces and nephews as well: Kristin’s children Kaitlynn and Michael, Maureen’s
children Bobby, Danielle and Bethany, and Robert’s children David, Emma and Conor.
Emma also added a great great niece and nephew, Noah and Isabel and David added
Asher and Kambri. Patrick and Kim’s children quickly became “Aunt Sue’s Angels”. Tyler,
Alexis and Katie Sue were showered with endless love and care from their Aunt Sue since
their births. She also quickly became known as “Aunt Sue” by family, friends, and children of
friends. Sue was such a selfless person who always put others first. All who were lucky
enough to be in her presence would agree. Aside from the endearing love she had for her
“Angels”, Sue extended her heart to the many Golden Retrievers she adopted who needed
to be loved in their senior years as well as those who needed the support of medical care.
Visitors would always be greeted by at least one wagging tail, usually two. Sue’s personality
will long be remembered as someone having the biggest heart, an open home, and love for
all. To know her was truly a blessing. Heaven certainly gained one of the best Angels this
world has ever seen. Sue leaves behind a combination of the true meaning of a great friend,
her wisdom and those who were lucky enough to know her, a higher meaning of “Aunt Sue”.
She taught us all how to elevate ourselves with our individual families and has left a lasting
impression on so many.
Visitation will be Friday, February 14th from 4-7pm at Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave,
Dunellen, NJ. The funeral will take place Saturday, February 15th at 10am at Our Lady of Mount Virgin
Church, 600 Harris Ave, Middlesex, NJ. Burial will follow at Bound Brook Cemetery in
Bound Brook, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation in Sue’s name to the Delaware Valley
Golden Retriever Rescue, 60 Vera Cruz Rd, Reinholds, PA 17569.
