Sophie Puchel

Sophie (Sopko) Puchel, age 98 of North Plainfield passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, May 18, 2023.

Sophie was born in Carteret, New Jersey to the late Mary and Nicholas Sopko on October 8, 1924.

She was raised and lived in Scotch Plains until moving to North Plainfield in 1973.

She married her husband, Joseph Puchel, Sr. in 1953.  She spent all of her married life as a homemaker.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Puchel, Sr. in 2006 and all of her 8 siblings.

She is survived by her three children, daughter, Cynthia Puchel of North Plainfield; daughter Laurie Smego and husband Leonard of Middlesex; son Joseph Puchel, Jr. of South Plainfield, and one grandson, Jeremy Puchel of Monroe.

There will be a memorial visitation and service on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Avenue, Dunellen, New Jersey.

A private burial will take place at a later date at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband.
