Sebastiano "Sal" Failla Obituary

Sebastiano “Sal” Failla, 93 of Green Brook, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11 at Foothill Acres Care Facility in Hillsborough. Born in The Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Vincent and Mary Failla.
Upon graduation from high school, Sal served his country honorably in the United States Army. In 1952, Sal married Felicetta “Phyllis” Pellechia.  Sal and Phyllis settled in Green Brook Township in 1952 building their forever home in 1969 on Green Brook Rd.
Sal’s passion for cars and auto body repair lead him to opening Sal’s Auto Body in Green Brook in 1970. As a businessman and volunteer Sal was an active member in the Green Brook Lions Club
for 51 years, participating in fundraising for the visually impaired and community assistance, as well as supporting neighboring Lions Clubs. He was twice honored for his commitment with a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, with contributions in his name going to disaster relief causes supported by Lions Club International.
He was also a member of the
the Green Brook Businessman’s Association, the Green Brook Golf Association and was a member of Raritan Valley Country Club, and the oldest living member of the Auto Body Association of NJ. Sal was very active in Somerset County Special Olympics of NJ, as a volunteer, a coach and a contributor. Sal was also an active member in Our Lady of Mt. Virgin parish for 43 years.
Besides his parents, Sal was predeceased by all 6 of his siblings. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, his children, daughter Felicia Failla, his daughter Lorraine Flynn and husband James, daughter Nancy Coletti and husband Jeffrey, and son Stephen and wife Irene. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, December 14 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home in Dunellen. A mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 15 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mt. Virgin in Middlesex. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway. In lieu of flowers donations are asked in Sal’s name to the Special Olympics of NJ at www.sonj.org
