Ruth Marie (Ferris) Murray

Ruth Marie Murray passed away on Saturday February 21 at the Arbor Terrace at Basking Ridge NJ at the age of 94. Ruth lived in Watchung and Green Brook NJ since 1960. She was also fortunate enough to have her condo in Florida where they spent the majority of their time half of the year. She was born on April 29 1931 in California. She was the beloved daughter of the late Robert and Ruth Ferris from Tulsa Oklahoma. Ruth was the heart and soul of her family. After marrying the love of her life, Donald Murray, she dedicated her life to creating a loving home and raising their ten children. Her selfless nature was a comfort to everyone who knew her. She was known for her "open door" policy, where the neighborhood children often gathered. Her witty personality and humor was a gift.

Ruth volunteered at the Watchung Rescue Squad for 20 years. She also was instrumental in coordinating the CCD program at Saint Mary’s Church - Stony Hill in Watchung NJ. Ruth loved the Siesta Key beach in Florida. Loved walking the beach, building sand castles, and hunting for special shells.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 75 years, Donald and nine surviving children Tom, Connie, Diane, Christine, Sandy, John, Lorie, Jackie, and Colleen. Also included are 2 daughter in laws Sandy Pauli Murray and Laura Murray. Son in laws include Joe Tamburini, Pete Desnoyers, and Charlie Greco. Ruth and Donald have 21 Grandchildren 25 Great Grandchildren and 2 Step Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Betty Nelson and daughter, Patricia.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Ruth's visitation on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Avenue, Dunellen, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at St Mary's Church - Stony Hill, 225 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, at 10:30 AM. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
