Ronald S. Dobies Obituary

PLEASE SEE ADDED FUNERAL MASS DAY AND TIME

Ronald Stanley Dobies of Middlesex, NJ, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on his birthday, April 2, 2023, in his home.

Ron was born on April 2, 1939 in Scranton, PA to Mary (Galaida) and Stanley Dobies. After graduating from West Side High School in 1957, he went on to study chemistry at the University of Scranton, from which he graduated in 1961.

He met the love of his life, his “Blanchie-Girl,” while working together at Food Fair and they wed in 1961.  Shortly after, he began his military career in the Army and they spent two years in Germany.  He was honorably discharged as First Lieutenant before heading back to the states.

Ron and Blanche found their forever home in Middlesex, NJ, where they raised their two daughters.  He had a successful career as an analytical chemist with Cyanamid, staying with the company through several acquisitions, retiring from Wyeth as a Senior Group Leader.  One of his major accomplishments was having the opportunity to work on new and innovative cancer medications.

After obtaining experience with the Board of Education and the Borough Council, he became the Mayor of Middlesex Borough, a position he held for thirty years.  He took great pride in serving his community always having the borough’s best interest in mind.  He especially enjoyed meeting with the residents and really getting to know the people of the community.  His door was always open.  He was honored and humbled when the Municipal Building was named for him in 2018.  He was a member of the American Legion, The Elks, and many other local organizations.

To those who he worked with on a professional level, he was a very serious and hard-working man.  However, there was a very silly and fun-loving side that he shared with his family and close friends.  He always found ways to make people happy and kept them laughing.  His crowning achievement in this area came during the COVID lockdown.  He loved to dress up in costumes weekly and shared the pictures on Facebook to raise spirits during a difficult time.

He loved listening to his music while observing his backyard wildlife, watching cowboy movies and “educational programs,” and tending to his garden.  He was an avid fisherman and, in recent times, an accomplished kazoo player!

He found his greatest joy in watching his four grandchildren grow from infants into adulthood, always finding time to celebrate any moment the whole family could be together.  He provided many family vacations to Disney World, Busch Gardens and Hershey Park.  Caring and providing for his family was always his number one priority.

Ron is predeceased by his parents.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty-two years, Blanche (Acker), daughters Mary (Paul) Drake and Trish (Mark) Tomczak, and grandchildren Mallory (Zach), Steven (Briana), Trevor and Tyler, cousins, nieces, nephews and many great friends.  He touched countless lives and will be missed by many.
