Rita Ann Lonie Obituary

Rita Ann Lonie, 85, of Green Brook, died quietly on Thursday at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ.

Rita, and her husband, Thomas Lonie, who predeceased her, lived in Green Brook for over 45 years. Rita was an office manager for Thul Machine Works, Inc. in Plainfield, NJ but had been long retired at the time of her death. She loved to laugh and was generous, warm, and charming. Rita enjoyed all the good things in life: gardening and decorating her home, entertaining friends with good food and strong drinks, taking vacations and weekend trips to the casino, and caring for a succession of Pomeranians. After her stroke in 2013 when she was wheel-chair bound, her life was much enriched by the day program she attended at the Adult Day Center of Somerset County where she enjoyed singing (enthusiastically, but a bit off-key) and fiercely competing in any games that offered prizes. In addition to being adored by her niece and her niece’s family, and always remembered by her loyal friends, Lynne and Bob Kinch, she was also fortunate to have Betty Njuguna, her aide, and Betty’s wonderful family and friends (Martha, Leah, Marvin and Amy, among many others) who brought so much joy into her later years with their good humor and kindness.

.Rita was predeceased by her husband, Tom Lonie, in 2014 and by her twin sister, Romayne Ermel, in 1997. She is deeply loved and missed by her niece, Rita Tishuk, and Rita's husband, Nicholas Tishuk, both of Brooklyn, NY, Patty Tishuk, of St.Petersburg, Fl, Betty Njuguna of Green Brook, and by Teddy, her final, and best Pomeranian.

Rita was always generous and open handed. Any contributions made to those in need on her behalf would be appreciated.
