Richard F. Monroe, age 94, of Dunellen, passed away on September 23, 2023, peacefully in his sleep.
Richard, also known as Dick to his friends and family, was born in New Brunswick, NJ on January 20, 1929. He served his country in both the US Navy and US Army and was a supporter of various Veteran charities. He worked for many years as a Tree Expert for Asplundh. He married the love of his life Edith A. Roberts on November 10, 1984, at her home in Dunellen with her children present. Sadly, her death in 2000 was heartbreaking for him and the entire family.
Dick loved the outdoors and all things nature. He loved fly fishing at the Flat Brook, fishing with his friends and family on the Sea Tiger II, gardening in the backyard, and feeding his beloved birds and squirrels who greeted him each day. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be missed by his loved ones.
Dick is preceded in death by his wife Edith A. Monroe in 2000 and his stepson Gary M. Roberts in 2018.
Dick is survived by his stepchildren: Joseph E. Roberts Jr., James J. Roberts, Robert P. Roberts, and Joann Stavole. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren: David, Eden, Robert Jr., Stephen, Jake, Rachel, Jennifer, and Kathleen.
Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, September 27 from 4:00-7:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home in Dunellen, with a funeral service to be held at 6:30. All other services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dick’s name to any charity fighting cancer or helping Veterans.
