Raphael G "Jerry" Randolph, Jr Obituary

Raphael Gerard “Jerry” Randolph Jr, 85, of Piscataway, passed away on January 11th, 2023, in Perth Amboy.

Jerry was born in Plainfield, NJ to Raphael Sr. and Hazel Randolph on June 12th, 1937. He married Elaine (nee Meconi) on November 7, 1959, at St. Anne’s in Staten Island. He graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1955. Jerry then enlisted in the US Navy Reserves as a Boatswains Mate. He spent his proudest years on the high seas of the North Atlantic aboard the USS Camp (DE-251). Jerry told sea stories of the large waves and often stated “We spent more time under the water than over it." After being honorably discharged he worked as an installer for Bell Telephone, New Jersey until 1970 when he decided to serve his community as a police officer. Jerry spent the next 26 years keeping Piscataway, NJ safe working alongside his son Arthur.  He was an avid fisherman with sea legs like he never left the high seas. He spent his years in retirement on his boat “Pintail II” teaching his grandson how to fish for fluke in the Raritan Bay. He took pride in knot tying, using his skills for tying fly fishing lures to be used by his sons. Jerry loved aviation and spent much of his time watching planes take off at various airports. His military service inspired his grandson Jacob, to follow in his footsteps and join the US Navy as a Naval Aviator. Most importantly, Jerry spent his final years with his wife Elaine. He always drove her anywhere, whether it was an adventure to a place they have never been, or to Junction Deli, his favorite restaurant. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Raphael, Hazel and his son Andrew.

Jerry is survived by his wife Elaine, Sons; Arthur,  David and his wife Patricia, grandchildren; Jennifer, Rachel, Jeremy and his wife Jillian, Veronica, Jacob, and Zachary, and great granddaughter Cecilia Marie.
