…There’s a feeling I get when I look to the West...”
-Led Zepellin
Philip Thomas McCarthy passed unexpectedly on January 7th of this year at the age of 46. He was living in Oklahoma, caring for his family and working hard. Phil will always be a cherished son, brother, father, partner, uncle, and friend.
Growing up in North Plainfield, Phil was the middle child to Jane and Phil McCarthy. He was a quiet kid and quickly bloomed into a firecracker and seized every day! He attended Valley Forge Military Academy and graduated North Plainfield HS. His passion for tinkering with cars led him to Lincoln Tech, where he honed his skills and made some great friends. He worked for Car Parts during this time before heading west to Oklahoma. Soon, Phil’s heart soared.
He met Nicole, Connor and Jayme and they gave him wings. With the arrival of Rhys, Phil’s hands and heart were full. His three kings kept him young at heart and he dedicated himself to giving them everything he could. He had an unwavering love for his boys.
Phil had an unmatched work ethic, dedicating himself tirelessly to everything he pursued. He had a deep commitment to tasks begun and set the bar high each day. As luck would have it, work brought him back to NJ last year on a project. It was a blessing to have Phil spend three months with his Mom and meet his newest nephews. That time will be treasured forever.
On the lighter side, or “heavier” one, he was a metalhead. It started with one guitar years ago and his love for music grew and grew. A good meal, a cold beer, and some heavy metal made for a happy Phil.
Phil’s sense of humor was the best and if you were lucky enough to laugh with him, well…you were lucky enough! His infectious laughter could fill a room, and his smile had the power to brighten even the darkest skies. A loyal fan of the NY Giants, he never missed an NFL draft, a game, a postgame or an opportunity to wear some Big Blue gear. His dedicated and loving spirit will never leave us.
He leaves joyful memories to his mother Jane McCarthy; partner Nicole; sons Connor, Jayme and Rhys; sister Mary (Bob) O’Connell, brother Joseph (Jennifer) McCarthy; nieces and nephews Patrick, Michael, Alyssa, Caleigh, Olivia, Brayden and Bobby; beloved family friends Jon and Joyce Fourre and many more loving relatives and friends. His father Philip passed in 2017.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, June 1st at Sheenan Funeral Home beginning at 10 am. A funeral service will start at 12 noon. If anyone wishes, donations to the good work of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are always appreciated.
If you are able to be here, consider sporting your favorite NY Giants gear.
