Philip Cox Obituary

Philip P. Cox, age 86 of Somerset, passed away on Monday, June 16 th in Somerville. He was the beloved husband of the late Judith B. (Mathews) Cox. They shared a life together for 58 years. Born on August 10, 1938, in Somerville, he was the son of the late Francis and Vivian O. (Grishkevich) Cox. Philip graduated from Rutgers University In 1960 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed by Dranetz Technologies, Inc. for many years until his retirement. Phil was an avid skier, a skill he learned from his father, and passed on to his children. Phil and Judy enjoyed sailing, RV touring and other travels during their retirement. Phil was also a regular at several area Bluegrass Jams, playing washtub bass, spoons, or the cajon drum. He was a supporter of many charities, and served as President of Fish Inc. Dunellen Area, as well as working for their food and clothing collections. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, Piscataway, actively supporting the church and school programs through his skills with audio and video equipment.
Philip is survived by his children, Deborah Gelormine, Daniel Cox (Ramona DeMeo-Cox), Rebecca Maxon, and Patricia Miller (Matthew), his sister Kathleen Boardman (Burton), his grandchildren Sean Maxon (Caitlin Pozmanter) and Sage Maxon, and his great grandson, Noah Philip Maxon. In addition to his wife and parents, Philip was predeceased by his sister, Jane Gay.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Avenue, Dunellen from 3 - 6PM, and on Monday morning from 9 - 10 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, 501 New Market Road, Piscataway. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Millstone.
