Patrick James Ryan, of Dunellen and Scotch Plains, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2020 at the age of 53 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Pat was born on August 26, 1966 to John and Barbara Ryan of Dunellen, the youngest of five. He served in the US Coast Guard from 1989—1996 at stations in Boston and Montauk. He most recently worked for Hanover Insurance until he retired last year.
As he managed his illness, Pat became a passionate and effective advocate for pancreatic cancer awareness and support services through his volunteer work on behalf of The Autumn Leaves Project.
He was predeceased by his parents and his partner, Colleen Dooley. Patrick is survived by his brother Terry Ryan (Louise Lennon), Anne Ryan (Dan Gallagher), Kevin Ryan (Mary Ryan), and Dorothy Ryan Leitch (John Leitch), as well as his beloved border collie Hope. He was a proud and loving uncle of Kate, Conor (Amy), Brendan, Jack, Caroline, Colleen, Sean, Nicole, Marissa and Shei. Pat leaves behind many extended family members and friends.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no service. Patrick requested that any contributions in his name be made to The Autumn Leaves Project at www.autumnleavesproject.org.
