Michael J. Walsh, 66, of Stoney Point, NY, passed away on Tuesday October 28, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on September 27, 1959 to the late Robert James Walsh and Constance Elaine Walsh, Micheal was the first of five children. He grew up in the quiet New York suburb of Stony Point, and graduated from Roxbury High School in Succasunna, New Jersey.
Michael spent a long and fulfilling career in the trades. As a construction superintendent he helped to shape the skyline of New York City. He took great pride in his work. Known for his easygoing nature and his gift for conversation, Michael made friends wherever he went. No matter where he traveled, he always had a friend close by. He had a story for every occasion and a joke up his sleeve.
When he wasn’t working, Michael could be found on the front porch of his family home in Dunellen accompanied by family, friends and a steady stream of bluegrass. He was often caught shirtless tilling his garden and mowing the lawn. A true carpenter to the end, there was always a project to work on — a home constantly in flux. He loved spending time with his family and had a knack for making everyone around him laugh. His humor was a signature blend of dark wit and jovial warmth.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Catherine Walsh. He adored her endlessly, peppering her with praise and affection; a personal favorite was his rhetorical, “Have I told you I love you lately?” Together they built a lifetime of memories through road trips, adventures, and quiet evenings at home.
He leaves behind his three children Emily (Peter) Barry, Catherine (Luke) Francisco, and Kenneth Walsh; his four cherished grandchildren, Finn and Nora Barry, and Peter and Daphne Francisco, with whom he enjoyed many special moments during his retirement. He is survived by his brothers, Robert and James Walsh, and his sisters, Susan Walsh and Carolyn Lightener, as well as fourteen nieces and nephews.
Michael had a great smile that matched his gregarious disposition; He continually greeted friends with “never had a better day in my life.” His adventurous spirit, whether hitchhiking to Boston in his youth or exploring the East Coast with his wife and children, made his life a collection of stories that will live on through those who loved him.
Michael’s presence filled every room with laughter, love, and light. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Michael's visitation on Friday, November 7th from 4 PM to 8 PM at Sheenan Funeral Home, and to his funeral mass on Saturday, November 8th at St John the Evangelist RC Church at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
A repass will follow the Mass at the Dunellen Hotel, 120 N Washington Avenue, Dunellen, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations in Michael’s name to the VFW Post 5479 or to the American Legion Post 119.
