Mary T. (Carter) Murray

Mary Theresa Murray, 94, passed away on July 28th, 2021. She was born in Plainfield to John Carter and Catherine Fitzgerald. Her sister, Margaret was 9 years older and also recently died.

Mary excelled in school and skipped a grade in grammar school. After graduating high school, she enrolled in secretarial school and learned shorthand and typing. In April of 1947 she married Joseph Anthony Murray and quickly became the mother of six children in 9 years.

In 1960 she moved to Dunellen and when her youngest child was 6, she worked part time for the Dunellen Board of Education as secretary for the Board Administrator.

Her surviving children are Joseph Anthony Murray (Janice), Mary Theresa Reffler (Rick) and Peggy Fiumara (Paul). She is predeceased by three of her children, Sue Ellen Hughes (Jerry) of Ohio, Jack (Nancy) of Florida and Cathy Ann Krainski (Jim) of Sayreville.

She was the Grandmother to 10 children and the Great Grandmother to 20! She was a wonderful mother who instilled in her children hard work, respect for others and to do the best you can do. She was a great role model and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Friends and family may visit on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Avenue, Dunellen, NJ. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. John The Evangelist Church in Dunellen, NJ with a burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, NJ.
