Mary Margaret McDonald (née Brotz), 91, of Dunellen, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Center for Hope Hospice, Scotch Plains, on October 9, 2022.
Mary was born May 1, 1931 in Englewood, NJ to John and Catherine (née Higgins). Mary was married to her loving husband, George, for 70 years. Prior to her marriage she worked for New York Life in NYC, and after raising their 4 children, worked for Reagent Chemical in Middlesex.
Mary and George loved to travel and enjoyed spending time with their family. She was a communicant of St. John’s Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
In addition to her husband, George, she is survived by daughters, Linda McNelis, Carol Bartilotti (Richard), Janet Leonard (Chris), and son, Jamie (Becky). Mary was the loving grandmother of 10 grandchildren, Maureen, Erin, Caitlin, Daniel, Sean, Michael, Kevin, Ryan, Sheila, Tim, and also the great-grandmother of Seamus, Malcolm, Conor, Cullen, Quinn, Nolan, Mackenzie, Madeline, Andrea and Ciaran. She is also survived by sister, Victoria Morrell and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Friends and family may gather prior to the funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Dunellen on Monday, October 17, 2022 from 10 to 11 a.m. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Gen. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey.
