Mary A. Baratta, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on February 17, 2025.
Born in Jersey City on January 27, 1933, to Joseph and Geraldine Lapadula,
Mary was a lifelong resident of Jersey City. She graduated from high school in 1950 and later from Jersey City State College. In 1957, Mary married Nicholas Baratta, and together they had two sons, Nicholas and Joseph. Mary dedicated over 30 years of her career as an accountant at Eagle Fuels in Jersey City.
Mary was a woman of many passions, including reading, bowling, attending playhouses, and traveling. Above all, she was the heart and soul of her family, whose laughter and vibrant personality will be remembered fondly. Her sharp and sometimes sassy sense of humor and unwavering love for life were matched only by her love for her family. Her greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren excel, whether playing sports, performing on stage, creating art, or achieving milestones in their lives. Mary’s legacy will live on through the countless memories she created with her family, whom she cherished deeply.
Mary is predeceased by her husband, Nicholas P. Baratta in 2011, her son Nicholas Baratta and her parents Joseph and Geraldine (Calabrese) LaPadula; her brother Joseph and his wife Lucy LaPadula of Nebraska; her sister Carmela; sister Piserchia and her husband Lou of Jersey City; sister Barbara Brady of Homer, N.Y. and former husband Larry. She is survived by her son Joseph Baratta and his wife Irene of Toms River; her daughter, Nicole Earnest and her husband Christopher of Dunellen; grandchildren, Geraldine Baratta, Nicholas S.
