Marie M (Hildebrand) Zelenty

Marie M. Zelenty, 92, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at her home in Dunellen, NJ, in the presence and loving care of members of her family.  Born in Hackensack, NJ, Marie is the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Hildebrand, and was predeceased by her husband Alfred, her brother Henry Hildebrand, her daughter Valerie, and her daughter-in-law, Rebecca.  Marie and Alfred moved with their family to Dunellen in 1967, where they raised their seven children and, for several years, two nephews.  Marie and Alfred were communicants of St. John The Evangelist Church in Dunellen and active members of VFW, Post 5479, also in Dunellen.  Marie volunteered for a time as a tutor, reading with young children at Whittier School, and was active in Dunellen’s Senior Citizen Group in her later years.  Marie truly enjoyed trips to the casino with family and friends, and was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees.  She is survived by children Steven (and Peggy) Zelenty of Port Orange, FL, Michael (and Maureen) Zelenty of Arlington, VA, Paul (and Cheryl) Zelenty of Bridgewater, NJ, Cynthia Zelenty of Walnutport, PA, Cecilia (and  Sundeep) of Brooklyn, NY, and John Zelenty of Dunellen, NJ.  She also leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews including Peter and Martin Hildebrand, and more than 20 beloved grand and great grandchildren.

All services are private including her burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, NJ.  A full funeral mass will be held at St. John’s at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Marie can a make a donation to VFW, Post 5479, 201 Prospect Avenue, Dunellen, NJ 08812 or to the Dunellen Public Library, 100 New Market Road, Dunellen, NJ 08812.
