Laurence R. Hess, Jr, 78, of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on Monday; November 12th, 2018 in Raritan with his loving family by his side. Born in Brooklyn to the late Laurence Sr. and Frieda Hess, the family moved to Newark before settling in North Plainfield in the late 1940’s.
Larry graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1958. He was drafted to the NY Dodger’s, however joined the Marines in 1958. He was a Lance Corporal then became a Presidential Guard. He retired in July 1964. Larry became a police officer in North Plainfield then joined the Warren Township Police Department. He then worked for the Hunterdon Country Sherriff Department until his retirement. Larry will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Larry is predeceased by his sister Lois Seeley and brother-in-law Lloyd. He is survived by his children; Kelly Hess (Jim Kennedy), Duke Hess (Donna), Eric Hess (Lianna) and Chris Hess, Grandchildren; Tarah Battista (Steve), Joseph Giardina, Erin Catoggio, Eve Hess, and Drew Hess, and Great-Granddaughter Vivienne Mae Battista, and many loving nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on Thursday; November 15th, from 2-6PM at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen. Cremation will be private. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Larry’s name to the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter, 100 Commons Way, Bridgewater, N J 08807.
