Kathryn (Sheenan) Redmond

Kathryn Redmond, 84, of Bridgewater, New Jersey passed away peacefully on December 13, 2020 in Somerville, New Jersey. She was born on January 30, 1936 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late James and Catherine Sheenan. Her sister, Dorothy Redmond preceded her in death in 2014. Kathryn was an active member of St. John’s Church in Dunellen for many years. Kathryn grew up in Dunellen and resided there for many years before moving to Bridgewater, New Jersey.

 Kathryn attended St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick, New Jersey, graduating in 1954. After graduation, she attended St. Peter’s Medical Center, School of Nursing. Graduating in 1958 with a Diploma in Nursing, Kathryn began her career as a Registered Nurse working at her alma mater, as a recovery room nurse. She was promoted to the position of Head Nurse in the recovery room as her skills and commitment to quality patient care was exceptional. Kathryn worked as a dedicated professional and was also employed at Somerset Medical Center, in Somerville as a recovery room nurse during her career. 

Her career as a nurse was natural, she enjoyed serving people, which was exemplified through mentoring and being a preceptor to many nurses over the years. Kathryn shared her wisdom and experience, she was very conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion.

After retiring, Kathryn continued to serve as a volunteer at St. Peter’s University Hospital as a quality control nurse. Her commitment to quality patient care was constant. Kathryn enjoyed supporting the Ladies Auxiliary at St. Peter’s University Hospital. Kathryn also enjoyed her many trips to Atlantic City, New Jersey.  

All services are being handled by the Sheenan Funeral Home, Dunellen. A private service for Kathryn will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, New Jersey and a celebration of her life will be held by the family at a later date.  

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Chelsea Assisted Living staff in Bridgewater, New Jersey and the RWJUH staff in Somerville, New Jersey. Their dedication, care and support have been remarkable to Kathryn and her family.
