Joyce A. (Godfrey) Myers

On July 18, 2021, Joyce Ann Myers, our beloved mother, sister and grandmother, passed away at the age of 79.

Joyce Ann was born on April 29, 1942 in Newark to Robert and Blanche Godfrey and raised in South Amboy. She graduated from Sayreville High School in 1960 and was then employed by New Jersey Bell Telephone, where she met her husband, Gerry. They were married in 1962 and celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on September 2, 2020. Together they raised their three daughters in North Plainfield.

Always a devoted stay-at-home mom, Joyce returned to work when her daughters began their education, volunteering at their school, Stony Brook. This led to a career in the North Plainfield school system until retirement to their Pennsylvania lake home in the Stillwater Estates.

Joyce was a proud member of the Rainbow Girls and will also be remembered for her talent for knitting and generously donating her creations to friends and all new family babies. Some of her other favorite pastimes included league bowling, family camping, tennis and swimming at 113 Jennings Lane.

Joyce is predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband, Gerard H. Myers, in March.

She is survived by her brother, Dr. Robert J. Godfrey, Jr. (Mark), daughters Deborah Myers, Nancy Purcell-Holmes (Mark), Pamela Sasso (Michael), niece Kara Foster (Kevin), grandchildren Dr. Ryan D. Purcell (Gillian), Thomas (Catie), Patrick (Serena), Bianca, Matthew, Andrew and great niece, Kaley.

Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects at Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Avenue, Dunellen, NJ on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 from 4 pm until 8 pm. Family and friends may visit the funeral home on Thursday, July 22nd, 2021 from 10 to 10:30 a.m. to say their final farewell before Interment which will follow immediately thereafter at Rosedale Cemetery on Thursday, July 22nd, 2021 at 11:15 a.m.
