Joseph S. Filo, Jr.

Joseph S. Filo, Jr., 80 currently of Forest City, PA and ­­­­­formerly of Dunellen passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on April 16, 2021.

Born in the Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late, Joseph S. Filo, Sr. and Agnes Caroline (Bublavek) Filo. Moving to Dunellen at the age of 2, he attended St. John’s elementary school and graduated from Dunellen High School.

After high school, he began working for Vickers Roofing Company in Plainfield. He worked his way up to manager, then president, and eventually owner when he purchased the company in 1982.

He was a member of the Dunellen Fire Department and was a past President of the Dunellen-Green Brook Rotary Club. He played in the Dunellen Bar Pool League and was also an avid freshwater fisherman and passed on his love of fishing to his children and grandchildren.

He married his high school sweetheart Dorothy Hendershot in 1960 and it was a love affair that would last for 39 years. After retirement he built his dream log cabin on a lake in Pennsylvania where he would spend cherished time with his family that he adored.

Joseph is predeceased by his parents and his wife, Dorothy. He is survived by his son Joseph Filo, III and his wife Anne; his daughter Darlene Nardi and her husband David; his 3 grandchildren, Daniel, Allison and Katelyn; his brother Jack, his sister Julianne Henry and by many nieces and nephews, as well as by his longtime companion Betty Orbik and his beloved golden retriever, Jessie.

Friends may visit the family on Friday, April 23rd, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Avenue, Dunellen, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joseph’s name to the Dunellen Fire Department, 231 South Madison Avenue, Dunellen, NJ 08812.
