Joseph Bernard Bena Obituary

Joseph Bernard Bena passed away peacefully on the morning of January 10th, 2022.

Joseph Bena was born on Saturday May 20, 1933 in Perth Amboy NJ as the first child of John and Mary Bena.  Joe spent his childhood and high school years in the City of Perth Amboy and graduated Perth Amboy High School in 1951.  While in high school, Joe served as Vice President of the Chemistry Club and was a member of the Junior and Senior Student Council.  After high school, Joe attended and graduated from Rutgers Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1955.  From 1956-1958 Joe proudly served his country as an Army Pharmacist in Korea.  After returning from Korea, Joe married Jane Tilton in 1965 and moved to Dunellen NJ where he resided for 50 years and began a 52 year career as a retail pharmacist until his retirement in 2010.

Joe was an avid fan of the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers and a 42 year season ticket holder and supporter of Rutgers Basketball and Football.  Joe loved to watch his kids participate in sports and other activities and made sure the coaches and referees in Central New Jersey knew what he was thinking.

Joe is predeceased by his Father John Bena and his Mother Mary Bena.  Surviving are his wife Jane Bena of Bridgewater NJ, his Brother Frank Bena of Beltsville Maryland, his son John Bena and his wife Allyson Hackman of South Plainfield, NJ, his son James Bena and his wife Jennifer Bena of Milton, Georgia, his daughter Janet Rasic and her husband Mike Rasic of Mill Valley, CA and his seven grandchildren: David, Michelle, Paige, Tommy, Sarah, Nicholas and Andrew.
