Joseph A. Posluszny, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday morning. Joe was a lifelong resident of Dunellen, NJ, born on May 3, 1933. He attended St. John’s Catholic school and Dunellen High School, later joining the army and serving in the Signal Corps in Alaska during the Korean War. After his service, Joe married Helen Lysy in 1960. He worked as a machinist for MAN Roland in Middlesex for over forty years, including twenty years as union president. Joe attended evening classes at Rutgers University and earned a BA in Business Administration. Joe and Helen had four daughters.
Joe had a wide range of interests and was active in several organizations, including the Polish Falcons, Dunellen Seniors, American Legion Post 119, St. John’s Church, and the New Jersey State Chrysanthemum Society. He loved polka music, the New York Yankees, Rutgers football, animals, and gardening. Tomatoes were always plentiful. Joe was known for his friendly conversations and could often be seen riding his tractor mower around his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen; his daughters JoAnn Posluszny Bond (husband Jason), Donna Posluszny Berton (husband Mark), Karen Posluszny Gargiulo (husband Jim), and Suzanne Posluszny; his grandsons Jeremy and Justin Bond; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at St. John’s Church in Dunellen on Tuesday, July 16 at 11 am, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Jersey Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Dunellen Fire Department.
