Joseph J. England, longtime Dunellen resident, passed peacefully after 93 years of a life well-lived. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 3rd at 11 am at St. John The Evangelist Church. Interment with military honors to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway. Visitation will be held on Monday, Labor Day, from 1 pm – 4 pm at the funeral home.
Born in Michigan on June 8, 1931, Joe was one of ten children to hardworking dairy farmers Joseph and Mae England. He learned the values of dedication and hard work early on.
As a young man, the family moved to NJ, settling in Liberty Corner. After his schooling, he married Marion Maier and the rest was history. Together, they built a beautiful life, and this weekend, they would have celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Their love story is one of enduring commitment.
Joseph served his country with the US Army during the Korean conflict. Upon his honorable discharge, he started his long-time career with Bell Labs. He was able to provide a good life for his family and retired after decades of service.
With retirement came more time to enjoy his golf game, football games and his beloved NY Yankees. His real passion could be found in the kitchen though. Joe was a remarkable cook, and he took great pride in preparing delicious meals for his family and friends. His kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, delicious meals and great memories.
Above all, his family brought him the most joy. He was a devoted husband and proud father. He was over the moon to be called Grandpa and Great Grandpa!
Although we are saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he leaves a legacy of love and devotion.
He leaves his beloved wife Marion; his children Joseph Jr. (Lynda), John (Kelle), Marion Hughes (Jon), Edward (Denise), Robert (Lisa); his grandchildren Sarah Peters (Jon), Carrie England (Joseph Black), Justin England (Jessica), Kyle England (Kristi), Jonathan Hughes, Rosemary, Matthew, Robert, Elizabeth and Lucas England; his great grandchildren Evelyn, Isla, Jackson, AJ, Danny, & baby girl England on the way; and many more dear relatives and friends. His siblings Eleanor, Genevieve, Leo, George, Earl, Archie, Robert and Thomas passed before him.
