John B. Rockafellow III Obituary

John B. Rockafellow III passed peacefully at home on June 17, 2024. A memorial service in his honor will be held on Tuesday, June 25 th from 4 to 8 pm at the American Legion Post 261 (840 South Washington Ave, Piscataway NJ).

Born in 1947 in Flemington, “Rocky” was the youngest of four children. After graduating from Hunterdon Central High School, he enlisted into the US Army during the Vietnam War. Over the course of two years in combat, he displayed extraordinary bravery and devotion to his platoon. Based on this heroism and meritorious service in a combat zone, Rocky was awarded The Bronze Star Medal, two Army Commendation Medals with Valor Devices, and two Purple Hearts for his wounds received in action.

Upon his return to the states, Rocky married Linda O’Connor (deceased 2023) and was blessed with two daughters. Later, his life was further enriched when he met and married Jennifer Thomas. With Jennifer came a wonderful family who loved and respected him greatly. They made their home together in Dunellen, NJ. Rocky was a dedicated husband who cared for his wife until her passing.

Rocky dedicated 47 years to Union Carbide, later known as DOW Chemical Co. He was a hard worker full of commitment and integrity until his retirement. Rocky spent countless hours playing golf with his friends and also enjoyed watching sports with friends and family. Rocky dedicated many years of service to various local VFW & Legion Posts.

Predeceased by his adored wife Jennifer (2017) and his sisters Norma Jones, Shirley Rockafellow and Joan Franklin; he leaves his daughter Tabitha Ricicki; grandchildren Dakota Barnhart (Hunter) and Stephen Ricicki; great grandchildren Trenton & Aurora Barnhart; Jennifer’s girls Jane, Deborah, Amanda and Lisa and many more dear relatives, friends and fellow veterans.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the good work of The Wounded Warrior Project, a cause close to John’s heart.
