John Joseph Suiter

John Joseph Suiter, 88, from Piscataway, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the VA Hospital in East Orange, NJ. Born in Morristown, he was the son of the late John Stanley Raymond Suiter and Sally Joan Kaish Suiter.

John served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He went on to serve in the New Jersey National Guard before retiring in 1993. He worked as a crane operator for Fanwood Crushed Stone from 1960-1995. John married the love of his life, Margaret Stinson on September 10, 1955. He finished his high school equivalency in 1973, and would also earn certification in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration in 1976. John served as treasurer of American Legion Post #293 in Warren Township on and off during his 59 years of membership. He also volunteered at the VA Hospital in Lyons for over 30 years. He was treasurer for the Knights of Columbus in Piscataway and was a communicant of St Frances Cabrini Church for many years. John enjoyed bowling, fishing and horseshoes in his spare time.  John was eager to help with any chore, happy go lucky and assisted everyone with a smile on his face.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret in 2016. He was also predeceased by his brother Lawrence, his sister Joan Eckert and brother-in-law Dennis Tipton. John is survived by his son John, his daughter Linda Avezzano and her husband Frank, his son Raymond and his wife Saundra. He is also survived by his brother Donald and his wife Birdie, his sisters Jean Milito and husband John as well as by his sister Doris Tipton. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Frank Avezzano and wife Stephanie, Jessica Suiter, Antoinette Avezzano, and Raymond Suiter Jr., as well as by his great grandchildren Katrina, Brianna and Cody Avezzano as well as by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Friends may visit the family on Sunday, August 15 from 2:00-6:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 16 at 10:00am at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Piscataway. Cremation will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be in John’s name to a local animal shelter, St. Frances Cabrini Church, the Gary Sinise Foundation, Knights Of Columbus 11017 in Piscataway or a charity of your choosing.
