Joanne Wapinski

Joanne (Grodzki) Wapinski, age 86, beloved wife of the late Edward Wapinski, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2025 with her family by her side..

Born on October 8, 1938 in Elizabeth, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Genevieve (Ruszala) Grodzki.

She was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School, Elizabeth.

In 1957 she met her husband Edward and they married in 1960.

Joanne and Edward raised their 4 girls in Piscataway.

She worked for Bank of America in Piscataway as an Assistant Branch Manager.

Joanne loved being with her family, enjoyed reading, shopping, cooking, playing cards, and crocheting.

She spent vacations with her family every summer in Wildwood Crest where she enjoyed time at the beach. She also enjoyed the Poconos spending time at the lake with her daughters, son-in-laws, and grandchildren.

Her last greatest joy was becoming a great grandmother.

Joanne is survived by her 3 daughters; Linda Shannon, Laura Riello, and Beth Nook. Her son-in-laws; Tom Kartelias, Matt Riello, and Jeff Nook. Her grandchildren; Paul Kartelias and his wife Grace, Bianca Riello, Vincent Riello, Anthony Riello, Sidney Shannon, Jake Shannon, Alyssa Nook, Scott Nook, and Andrew Nook. Great grandchild; Tommy Kartelias.

In addition to her husband Edward, she was preceded in death by her son Edward, and her daughter Lisa Kartelias.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church 501 New Market Rd. Piscataway at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Her visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, April 23rd from 5 – 8pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, Dunellen.
