Joan Frances Chappell, 85, of Piscataway, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021 with her loving family by her side. Born in Jersey City, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Stella Oberwanowicz.
After graduating Bayonne High School, Joan met the love of her life, James Chappell. It was a love affair that would last until his death 2012. After she raised her family, Joan began a very gratifying career in child care. She had a love for arts and crafts, especially painting ceramics. Her greatest joy came from raising her family and keeping a happy home, and in later years that love was passed along to her grandchildren.
Besides her parents and her loving husband, Joan was predeceased in death by her sister Irene Russotto, and by her brother William Oberwanowicz. She is survived by her beloved sons, James, Jr and William. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Kristen, James, Madison and Chloe, as well as by her great granddaughter Natalia.
Friends may visit the family on Thursday, January 14 from 3:00-5:00pm at the Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave in Dunellen. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 15 at 10:00am at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Dunellen. Burial will follow at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway.
