Obituary

Joan Claire Cleveland, 90, of Piscataway, passed away Friday, May 26th. Joan was born on July 31, 1932, the last of 8 children to Samuel and Edna Dawson in Plainfield New Jersey. She met and married the love of her life, Joseph Hurshel Cleveland on July 12, 1952, at St. John’s Church in Dunellen, NJ.

Joan worked as a records clerk and eventually secretary to the Chief of Police in Piscataway New Jersey for over 25 years. She retired in 1989. While she was proud of her work accomplishments, what gave her the biggest joy and was her largest source of pride, were her children and grandchildren. Joan was fiercely loyal to her family. She loved bowling, golfing, and travel, having been able to travel all over the world with her husband to Germany, the UK, and more.

Joan is predeceased in death by her husband Joseph, her parents, and her siblings. She is survived by her sons Joseph (Ela) Cleveland, and Mark (Patricia) Cleveland as well as her grandchildren Paul, Virginia, Jessica and Tara as well as several great-grandchildren.

Joan’s family wishes to extend thanks to all friends, family, and caregivers for their care and support at this time. All services will be held privately.
