Jane (Tilton) Bena

Jane Carol Bena passed away peacefully on the morning of March 12, 2023.

 Jane Bena was born on Saturday February 25h, 1939 in Rahway New Jersey as the only child of Halsey and Helen Tilton.  Jane spent her childhood and High School years in the City of Rahway and graduated from Rahway High School in 1957. While in High School she served as a student reporter for the school newspaper.  Jane attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and graduated with a degree in Psychology in 1961. During her time at Bucknell Jane was an associate editor for the Bucknellian, was the Secretary for Phi Sigma Tau and the Owens House Vice President.   After graduation Jane started a career as an elementary school teacher in Carteret, New Jersey where she taught for six years.  Jane also spent over 15 years as a Telecommunications Manager for Martiz Marketing in the 1980’s and 1990’s. 

On November 5th, 1965 Jane married her husband of 57 years, and moved to Dunellen New Jersey, where she resided until 2018.  Jane was an avid reader her entire life.  She enjoyed watching her three children participate in athletics, theatre and other activities and never missed a game, meet, concert or activity of any of her children. Jane also enjoyed being a judge at numerous swimming and diving meets, and most of all enjoyed being a grandmother.

Jane is predeceased by her Father Halsey Tilton, her Mother Jane Tilton and her Husband Joseph Bena.  Surviving are her Son John Bena and his wife Allyson Hackman of South Plainfield, New Jersey, her son James Bena and his wife Jennifer Bena of Milton Georgia, her Daughter Janet Rasic and her Husband Mike Rasic of Mill Valley, California, and her seven Grandchildren: David, Michelle, Paige, Tommy, Sarah,Nicholas and Andrew.

A viewing will be held on Monday March 20th from3-6pm at Sheenan Funeral Home in Dunellen, NJ located at 233 Dunellen Avenue, Dunellen NJ.  A funeral service will be help on Tuesday March 21st at 10:00am, also at Sheenan Funeral Home followed by a burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, NJ.
