Hsu Jan, died on Thursday, January 30, 2025 in his home in Warren, NJ.
He was born in Jiangsu, Yixing, China in the Year of the Snake, 1929. Orphaned at age 7 he escaped to
Taiwan by boat in 1945. There he worked as a senior train engineer. Seeking a better life for himself and
his family in May 1967 he came to America to work. He worked in various restaurants until he was able
to get his green card and bring his family to America. In 1971 he was rejoined by wife and children and
They moved to New Jersey. He owned and sold several restaurants before finally settling in Dunellen, NJ
where he owned and operated Fu-Mai’s Kitchen along with his wife for 23 years. They retired in 2005
and moved to Warren, where they lived for 19 years.
Hsu is survived by his wife of 61 years, Fu-Mai Jan (nee Chang), daughters, Chi-Ying Jan (Stephen Paul
Lesniewski) and Wei-Ying Jan Seelinger (Thomas Joseph Seelinger) and his son, Chia-Hang Jan (Jinyan
Huang) as well as his 5 grandchildren Abbigael & Benjamin Lesniewski, Thomas & Jessica Seelinger
and Hao-Yan Jan.
Visitation is on Thursday February 13, 2025 from 9:00am to 10:00 am at Sheenan Funeral Home, 233
Dunellen Ave, Dunellen, NJ 08812. Followed by a burial in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
