Gloria Jean (Barkovitz) Vandermark

Gloria Jean Vandermark (Barkovitz) born February 17, 1940 in Plains, PA.  Daughter of Joseph and Sadie (Moses) Barkovitz passed away peacefully at Springpoint Living Facility in Manalapan, NJ on April 22, 2026 at the age of 86.

She was predeceased by her husband William H. Vandermark, her mother Sadie Barkovitz, her brother Gerald Barr, brother-in-law Harold Vandermark, sister-in-law Eileen Ferlick and her companion Robert Williams Sr.

She is survived by her daughters: Karen Vandermark Reidy of Bridgewater, NJ; Susan Witzel (James) of Middlesex, NJ; Marla Vandermark (Ted Pfister) of Manalapan, NJ; Sarah Vandermark of Scottsdale, AZ.  Her grandchildren Alexander Reidy; Trevor and Paige Witzel; Jackson and Sadie Pfister.  Her brother Joseph Barkovitz of Wilkes-Barre, PA; sister Rose Marie Haydu (Michael) of Plains, PA; brother-in-law Edward Vandermark (Rose) of Berwick, PA and many nieces and nephews. 

She worked many clerical positions before she became a real estate agent with Burgdorff then with ERA Boniakowski before retiring to care for her grandchildren.

She loved to take walks, tanning on the beach and in the backyard, crocheting and cooking, especially Lebanese rice and tabbouleh. Gloria could always be found dancing whenever she had the chance. She also loved to garden but was never able to identify poison ivy. We could always find her in the evening with a bowl of ice cream, her ‘carvel.’ When her daughters were growing up, she never missed any of their activities attending countless theatrical productions, choir and band concerts, and athletic events. When her children's activities were done, she continued this by attending as many activities of her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and having a great laugh.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Dunellen Booster Club and PTO, dedicating many hours to her daughters and the youth of Dunellen community. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her viewing on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at Sheenan’s Funeral Home from 2-6pm. Her funeral mass will be offered on Monday, April 27th, at St. John the Evangelist RC Church in Dunellen at 11:00am. followed by a re-pass at Dunellen Hotel. Her interment will be private.
