Geraldine Wiggins (“Geri”), 98, a longtime resident of Dunellen, passed away peacefully on Wednesday,
January 22, 2025.
Born in Plainfield, NJ, she was the loving daughter of the late Virginia (Williams) and Frank Griffin, Sr.
Geri moved to Dunellen at an early age and resided there for over 75 years. She received her education
in the Dunellen School system.
Geri was blessed with two beautiful daughters: Michele MacGregor and Diane Pepe (Stout).
In 1975, Geri was joined in holy matrimony to the late John N. Wiggins. Geri was baptized in 1958 as
one of Jehovah’s Witness and has been a Witness for 67 years. She was a kingdom pioneer in the
ministry and dedicated her service through door-to-door and letter writing. Throughout the years, Geri
has been a member of six different congregations between New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
Geri worked as a tailor/seamstress for many years, making beautiful wedding gowns for countless
brides. She made her own wedding gown when she married John. She was very artistic; enjoyed
drawing and doing puzzles. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing and whistle. She sang at many
social engagements, weddings, and family “jazz” sessions where she sang and her sister, Lillian, played
the organ.
Geri was known as a vibrant and sharp-witted person who LOVED anyone she met! Her smile always
preceded her. She always told people she loved them and hugged and kissed anyone she met. She was
named “Sister Huggins” among some of her spiritual sisters and brothers. She blessed many with words
of encouragement or a powerful word to set you straight! She never liked to say “Goodbye” and would
always correct anyone who said it – “say So long or See you later/next time”. Geri will be remembered
as a loving and giving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and kind friend by all who knew
and loved her. Her life stood as a testament to the enduring power of kindness, courage, perseverance,
and unconditional love. She made a lasting impression on every life she touched and will be sorely
missed!
Geri was predeceased by her parents, Frank Sr. and Virginia Griffin; a brother, Frank Griffin Jr.; sisters,
Gwendolyn Griffin and Alpharetta McDougald; beloved daughter, Diane Pepe; and loving husband of 24
years, John Wiggins.
Geri leaves to cherish fond memories to her 101-year oldest sister, Lillian Powell, daughter, Michele
MacGregor, granddaughters, Teesha Stout and April Perera, grandson, William Pepe (Kristine), four
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of close friends and other relatives.
Viewing services will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Sheenan Funeral Home followed
by an 11 a.m. memorial funeral service on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
