Emma Margarita (Bobe) Cortes

Emma was the matriarch of her family; she kept everyone close and cared for everyone she possibly could until the very end. She passed away at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick at the age of 79 years old on October 13, 2025.

She was born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico to Felix and Josefa Bobe. They came over to New York with their 4 children for a better life like so many others. Emma went to George Washington High School, afterwards she went right into the workforce and excelled and was a manager in all her fields. She retired in 1995 with her final title being Special Agent for Verizon phone company. 

Emma met her spouse Israel Cortes on a blind date.  She had stated many times that she didn’t want to go, but when she saw him, she fell in love. They were married for 54 years and had a son named Israel Elvis Cortes.  All three of them lived in Piscataway, New Jersey. They were active in their church at Our Lady of Fatima and were a well-respected couple in their community. 

Emma and Israel became grandparents in 2016 to their first grandchild, Scarlett Arya Cortes.  Then they had two more named Xander Israel Cortes and Chloe Rose Cortes. She donned the name Mita to keep the name alive from her own mother. 

She is survived by her husband, son, three grandchildren, her two brothers Felix and Paul Bobe. All of whom she never stopped caring for. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her viewing on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Sheenan Funeral Home from 4 PM to 8 PM and to her funeral mass on Tuesday, October 21st at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, Piscataway at 10:30 AM. Burial will be private.
