Earl Fletcher Obituary

The Obituary of Earl Fletcher

Earl Fletcher was born on May 15, 1942 in Amherst, VA. He was the son of the late Lilbert and Fannie Rose Fletcher. He departed this life peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Abingdon Care Nursing Home in Green Brook Township, NJ.

After leaving Central High School, in Amherst, VA, Earl made his way to Newark, NJ in 1962 to live with his sister, Emma. He began working at Bamberger’s   Department store where he met and married his wife, Geraldine Newton in 1964; from this union, they were blessed with three beautiful daughters.

Earl aspired to have a better life for his wife and children so he worked multiple jobs to provide and to take care of his family.  With hard work, determination and commitment, he purchased a beautiful home in East Orange, NJ where over 24 years of precious moments and family memories were made.

Earl was a jack-of-all-trades. You name it, he did it. If it was sewing, decorating his home, or tending to his garden, Earl took care of it. He loved to meet new people, and visit family.  He loved to dance, and traveling.  But what Earl really loved to do was cook! He loved being in the kitchen trying new recipes and making sure his family and friends had plenty of good food to eat.

Earl was also a man of faith; he was a member and trustee of the Mt Zion Baptist Church in Newark, NJ for many years.

After retiring from Public Service Electric and Gas Company of 31 years  as a driver;  Earl moved to Newark, DE where he united with Fairwinds Baptist Church in Bear, DE.

His greatest joy came from the love of his family, friends and his church.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Besides his parents, Earl was predeceased by his youngest daughter, Nichole Fletcher; five brothers, Robert, William, Chestine, Lilbert, Jr and Leslie; five sisters, Bernice, Dorothy, Eva (his twin sister), Hester, and Emma.

Loving family who survive to cherish his memory include his beloved and devoted daughters; Beverly Wright (Leo) of Avenel, NJ, and Cheryl Fletcher of Mount Laurel, NJ, cherished grandchildren: Nicholas Fletcher, Leobrein Watts, Anthony Wright, and Leo Wright, Jr; Sisters, Mary Sandidge of Amherst, VA, Bessie Smith (Ivanhoe) of Landover, MD, and Nancy Fletcher of Washington, DC., and a host of many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  Earl is also survived by the mother of his children, Ms. Geraldine Fletcher, whose marriage to him lasted 24 years and a special friend and longtime companion, Ms. Rosa L. Herran.

Earl was very generous with his love; always giving, serving and helping out where ever he could.  His most important love was for the promise of new life in Christ Jesus.  As it is written, whosoever believeth in Him shall have eternal life!!!
