Donald Glenn Mettler, 85, of Cranbury, NJ, passed away on October 5th, 2022 in Cranbury NJ. Donald was born in Orange NJ to Jessie and Grover Mettler on September 20, 1937. He lived in West Orange for many years before moving to Plainsboro in 1980. He was a graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in teaching. He taught Spanish and was the Department Head as well as the Cross Country Coach at Edison High School for many years. He spent his summers traveling the US and often took students to show them the great US of A. He retired at the early age of 55 to pursue his passion of traveling the USA and Canada. Donald had many friends and family across the USA that he connected with through his travels. He was always on the go. There wasn't a road in the US that he did not know. He loved to map out a route for anyone who would ask. Many of his trips led him to License Plate Conventions all over the country. He was an avid and active member of the Automobile License Plate Collector's Association (ALPCA). His hobby of collecting plates created quite the wall décor display in his apartment. When he wasn't traveling across the country, he spent his days around Cranbury enjoying lunch at Teddy's and connecting with friends over a cup of coffee and probably telling them all about his travel adventures. Donald was never at a loss for words!
Donald is survived by his sister Edith Turi and her husband Raymond. Nieces Susan Ananian (Husband Alex), Karen Sweeney (husband Asa), and nephew Donald Turi (wife Tracey), and six Grand Nieces and Nephews.
Donald was a long time member and volunteer of The United Presbyterian Church of West Orange (formerly Patterson Memorial). Donations in Donald's name can be made to The United Presbyterian Church of West Orange at 20 Old Indian Rd, West Orange, NJ 07052
