Daniel M. Buccino, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and esteemed member of the Dunellen community, passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2023 at home. Born on December 9, 1930 in Dunmore, PA, Daniel was a longtime resident of Dunellen, NJ having previously lived in Westfield, NJ.
Daniel’s life was marked by dedication, commitment and an unwavering love for his family. He graduated from Westfield High School in 1949 and shortly after, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954.
During his high school years, Daniel met the love of his life, Carmela Feola and their relationship blossomed into a beautiful marriage. They shared a remarkable journey together for almost 69 years, building a foundation of love, respect and support that would be cherished forever.
For 35 years Daniel owned and operated the Elm Barber Shop in Westfield, a local establishment where he worked alongside his father, Joe Buccino, and a dedicated team of barbers who became like family to him. Daniel’s craftsmanship and genuine care for his customers were evident in the lasting relationships he cultivated over the years. His barbershop became a place of camaraderie and laughter, where stories were shared, and friendships were formed.
After retiring from the barbering business, Daniel joined Weldon Industries in Westfield where he worked for eight years in the testing lab and office. Despite transitioning to a new profession, his love for barbering remained constant, and he continued to cut hair on weekends, spending time with his barber association friends.
Daniel’s passion for sports was contagious. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants and could often be found passionately cheering them on. He was an active bowler well into his 80’s, once having bowled a 707 3-game series. He was also a distance runner, competing in numerous 5K races. Many will fondly remember his early morning running workouts, covering 5-10 miles through Dunellen, Green Brook, Middlesex and Piscataway as he inspired those around him to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle.
Family was the cornerstone of Daniel’s life, and he leaves behind a profound legacy.
