Our family matriarch, Clara Robinson, 91, of Green Brook, NJ passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025 with her loving family by her side. Clara was born on October 2, 1933 in Summit, NJ to Herman and Margaret Vogel.
She graduated from Union High School and then went on to the Orange Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her RN in 1954.
She worked at Orange Memorial Hospital, Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside and the office of Dr. Alvin Kaplan in Bound Brook. She volunteered for many years with the Green Brook Rescue Squad.
Clara led an active life, both physically and socially. She participated in fencing and basketball while in high school. As a young Mom, she did exercises along with Jack LaLanne on TV while her toddler children rolled around on the floor attempting to do the exercises. In her later years, she was a league bowler, who could still roll at least one 200 game every year into her early 80’s. Clara also enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband Bill, with her favorite trips being to Hawaii and Costa Rica. She visited 47 out of the 50 states. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her yard.
Socially, she was a member of The Retired Registered Nurses of Somerset County and the Altar Rosary Society of St. Luke’s.
Clara married her beloved and loving husband, Bill, in 1959. She had a strong devotion to family. Her three children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren were a tremendous source of pride and joy. But she also always quietly looked for ways to help others. If there was a neighbor in need, she would immediately step up to help.
Clara is survived by her son William (Sam), daughter Cynthia (Christopher) and son Kenneth (Patricia); granddaughters Claire (Joseph), Laura (Richard), Olivia (Anthony) and Grace; great granddaughter Eleanor and great grandson Theo.
Visitation will be held at Sheenan Funeral Home in Dunellen on July 30 from 4-7pm. There will be a mass at St. Luke’s in North Plainfield on July 31 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clara’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
