Christopher Quinn, 71, of Dunellen, NJ passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, in Somerville, NJ. On September 21, 1951, Chris was born in New Brunswick, NJ, fourth son of Christopher Quinn and Margaret (Corr). Life long resident of Dunellen, NJ. Married Cynthia (Krzykwa) in November 1975. Graduated Dunellen High School 1970 and Newark State College (Kean) 1974, with a B.A. in Education.
Chris enjoyed a life of activity and dedicated his time to various Boy Scout programs. He discovered his love of water, history, and Boy Scouts in the 1970’s during the Sea Explorer program, earning the rank of Quartermaster while sailing on YT-153 “Albatross 23” a decommissioned WWII-era tug boat outside of Perth Amboy, NJ. He also discovered his allergy to seafood at that time. Chris enjoyed a decades long business-to-business sales career for 4C Foods and Johnson O’Hare.
As a history buff, Chris enjoyed mixing in educational stops to historical sites during family vacations. He also spent his time camping and became a leader in both the Cub Scouts Pack #26 and Boy Scouts Troop #29, in Dunellen, NJ. Chris was instrumental in creating a summer camp exchange program between Troop #29 and the Nautical Training Corps based in Portsmouth, England. Chris was proud of his Canadian roots and Irish heritage, joining the Thomas Rogers Memorial Division No. 1, Ancient Order of the Hibernians, marching in several St. Patrick's Day Parades in New York.
Chris was happiest when he was traveling and helping others, and cherished his family and friends. He always was a kind, enthusiastic teacher and coach to his kids numerous youth sports teams. He could often be seen walking around town with his dog. He made friends and conversation whoever he happened to meet, be it in the US, Canada, or Europe. Chris’ other hobbies included working around the house, reading books, and telling family stories. He always insisted on sitting at the left corner of the table.
He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who knew him. Chris was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Brian, Hugh, and Kevin. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, sons, Shawn (Elena Vece) of Dunellen, NJ, Kyle and his wife Jaclyn (Lantieri) and granddaughters Magdalena and Natalia, of Wilmington, DE, and also counts among his legacy all the boys he helped guide on their path from childhood to young men.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Sheenan Funeral Home in Dunellen, NJ, followed by a celebration Mass at Saint John the Evangelist’s Catholic Church, in Dunellen, NJ, and burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, NJ.
