Carroll Mills Obituary

Carroll Ann Mills, of Dunellen, NJ, passed away at her home, on August 19, 2022.

Carroll was born in Plainfield, NJ on October 2, 1957. She attended Dunellen High School and after graduation in 1975 began working at Bellcore in Piscataway, with an interest in information technology. She started as a Reference File Coordinator and then as a Software Engineer, Software Release Manager and then System and Database Administrator until 1997.

While at Bellcore, Carroll was instrumental in organizing fund-raisers to purchase Christmas presents for under-privileged children. She was also a member of the Bellcore women’s softball team. Outside of work, Carroll was an avid dancer, taking workshops with the New Jersey Ballet. She also performed Sacred Dance within her local church community.

In 1997, Bellcore changed its name to Telcordia, and Carroll continued to work as a System and Database Manager, working on the Year 2000 Conversion as a conversion specialist and serving as the Year 2000 Ground Control Director. At this time, Carroll attended classes at Columbia University to further her education in Information Technology studies. She was then promoted to Senior Customer Care Specialist serving as the project lead for high severity problems and serving as the corporate consultant for disaster recovery planning.

From 2001 until 2003, Carroll served as a Solution Care Manager, responsible for customer support of Digital Subscriber Line solutions and coordinating a team of customer service professionals to determine root causes of problems. After that time, she was promoted to Senior Software Engineer and then to Senior System Architect from 2004 until 2012, at which time, Telcordia was purchased by Ericsson, Inc.  Carroll remained in her Senior System Architect position under Ericsson until 2016, serving as the project lead for data and equipment modeling, as well as data migration for a major product transformation. From 2016 until her death in August, Carroll served as a Senior Systems Integration Engineer, leading inventory system transformations to include data mapping and GAP analyses. Carroll’s career during this corporate evolution, spanned a total of 47 years.   

Carroll is predeceased by her father, Ogden J. Mills, Jr., and her mother, Anna Jane Curcio. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Jane Mills of Dunellen.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 7 at 10:00am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Martinsville.
