Carmela Haas
Green Brook – Carmela Haas passed away peacefully on May 11, 2023, at the age of 95. Predeceased by her husband Richard of 65 years, who passed away in 2018. Carmela is survived by her loving family, son John Haas, daughters and son in laws, Linda and Kevin Loflin and Julie and John Degutis. Caring granddaughter Amy and husband Seth Newman, grandsons Brendan Loflin and Jonathan Degutis and granddaughter Juliana Degutis. Her great grandchildren are Talon, King and Marly. Carmela was one of five children. Her surviving siblings are sisters Rose Sansone, Frances Miller, and brother Michael and wife Carmela Renda. She is predeceased by her sister Mary Murray. Also, Carmela’s caring and supportive friend Jillian Bonicker.
Carmela graduated with honors from Douglas College during a time when very few women achieved higher education. Carmela had many passions, the first of which was her family. She loved reading mystery novels, solving sudoku and word searches and was an excellent cook. Her favorite hobby was gardening and she absolutely loved flowers. Over the past 15 years she spent countless hours daily knitting 1000’s of baby hats for newborns.
Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, May 17, from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave, Dunellen. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 18 at 10:00am at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Dunellen. Burial will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
