Arthur J. McClelland

Arthur Joseph McClelland, 95, passed away on June 18, 2026. Born on February 4, 1931, he lived a life defined by faith, family, service, and generosity.

Arthur is now reunited with his beloved wife of many years, Eileen, who preceded him in death three years ago. Together they built a loving family and a home filled with warmth, laughter, and enduring memories.

He is survived by his seven children: Arthur Paul, Mary, Kathleen (Mike), Irene (Wayne), Paul (Joanne), Regina (Ean), and Michael (Sue). He was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marcelline  Keane, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Raised in New York City, Arthur served honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Europe during the Korean War. Following his military service, he returned home and married the love of his life, Eileen. While working full-time and raising a young family, he earned his degree from St. John’s University, demonstrating the determination and work ethic that would characterize his life.

In 1957, Arthur and Eileen moved to Piscataway, NJ, where they established the family home on Tabb Avenue and raised their seven children. That home became the heart of countless family gatherings, holiday celebrations, birthdays, graduations, and Sunday meals. Many gathered around the table to share stories, laughter, and, often, a piece of cake.

Arthur enjoyed a successful career in the insurance industry, working in New York for Continental and Travelers, and doing a long commute each day. Yet his greatest contributions were made through his faith and service to others. A devoted member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Arthur served in numerous roles over the years, most recently as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. He was deeply committed to nocturnal adoration and lived his faith through action.

His dedication to serving others extended beyond his parish. Arthur was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, volunteered with FISH in service to those in need, and generously gave his time to veterans and members of his community. He quietly supported many charitable causes throughout his life, always seeking ways to help those around him.

Perhaps one of Arthur’s most profound acts of love was his devoted care for Eileen during her battle with dementia. Through his unwavering commitment and compassion, he enabled her to remain in the comfort of their home until the end of her life, reflecting the depth of the vows they shared and the love that sustained them.

Family was at the center of Arthur’s life. Whether visiting relatives in New York City, taking his children to the beach, enjoying annual trips to Shawnee, going to the yearly Christmas House, or helping care for his grandchildren, he treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved. His presence brought people together, and his steady guidance, kindness, and sense of humor will be deeply missed.

Arthur’s love of God shaped the way he lived and influenced generations of family members. His example of faith, service, humility, and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew him. His memory will be cherished, and his legacy will live on in the family he loved so deeply and the countless lives he touched.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral mass at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, 501 New Market Rd, Piscataway, NJ at 10:30 am on Monday, June 22, 2026. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway. In lieu of flowers, donations to Doctors Without Borders would be appreciated.
