Arlene M. Stoop, 75 passed early Saturday morning. She spent the last five years focused on enjoying life whenever possible, despite fighting an aggressive cancer. On Tuesday she was hospitalized after her condition suddenly worsened and passed the morning of September 9th.
Arlene was born June 14, 1948, to Florence and William Nixon. She spent her childhood on a dairy farm in Franklin NJ with her parents and younger sisters. In 1966 she graduated from Franklin High School. Arlene went to Trenton State University and then onto Upsala University where she graduated in 1970 with a BS in Mathematics and Psychology. In 1971 on October 16th, she married her high school sweetheart Gary Stoop on the anniversary of their first date. They shared 53 wonderful years of marriage and had two beautiful children, Brett and Shannon.
Arlene was a teacher and active member in the VFW Auxiliary. She was a All-American Past District President, State Soloist, and Color Guard Captain. However, she was most known for her cooking. She handled the catering for countless VFW events and parties, and ran the hospitality rooms at State and National convention for many years. She seemed happiest spending time with family, which usually involved singing and cooking entirely too much food. She was a kind, giving, and loving woman, who will be deeply missed by so many.
Arlene Stoop is survived by her loving husband: Gary, Daughter: Shannon, Grandchildren: Andrea, Nicholas, Jonathan, and William. Great grandson: Damon, Sisters: Janet and Kathe.
She was predeceased by her parents: Florence and William, and her son: Brett.
Services will be held Thursday, September 14th from 2pm-5pm at Sheenan Funeral Home: 233 Dunellen Ave, Dunellen NJ, 08812. Repast following at the Dunellen VFW: 301 Prospect Ave, Dunellen NJ.
