Alice Marie (Ogurkis) Tocheny

Alice Marie Tocheny passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Tranquility at Fredericktowne Retirement Community in Frederick, MD.

Born on February 2, 1944, Alice grew up in Manville, New Jersey. She was one of eight children born to Peter and Stella Ogurkis. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Alice was a true blessing to her family and to all who knew her in the community. Alice lived most of her life in New Jersey, spending over 35 years in Dunellen alone. She had strong ties to her local community through her employment as a bank teller in Manville (Manville National Bank), in Dunellen (Hudson United Bank) and in Warren (World Savings Bank).

In February, 2008 Alice and her husband John Tocheny (deceased) celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. Both Alice and John served as strong role models for their three children and five grandchildren.

Alice was a faithful member of the Catholic Church all of her life, recently attending St. John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Dunellen. Before her illness, Alice served the church as a member of the Altar Rosary Prayer Group and generously volunteered her time to participate in other ministries offered at St. John’s.

Alice’s family includes two sons and a daughter. Michael and daughter-in-law Loretta Miller of Salem, Connecticut; John and  daughter-in-law Sari Tocheny of Bealton, Virginia; and Ann and son -in-law Mark D’addato of Frederick, Maryland.  Alice is also survived by five grandchildren: Claire, Nora, Katie, Gillian and Johnny.

Visitation will be held  at Sheenan Funeral Home in Dunellen from 3PM to 7PM on Thursday, May 13th, 2021. Funeral services will be conducted at 9AM on Friday, May 14th at Sheenan Funeral Home followed by a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Dunellen. Interment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Alice’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org
