Alexander Engel Obituary

Alexander “Alex” Mark Engel, age 64 of New Egypt, passed away peacefully with his wife, family and friends at his side on June 27, 2025 in Morristown, New Jersey. He was the beloved husband of Donna Jean (Kingman) Taylor. Alex was born on May 7, 1961 in Plainfield, New Jersey. He was the son of the late Lawrence J. and Betty J. (Alcock) Engel. Alex was a graduate of Green Brook High School and he earned a Bachelor of Science degree as well as a Masters degree in Business Administration at Centenary College. Alex also earned an Associates degree in Applied Science in Telecommunications Management from DeVry Technical Institute. He was employed by T & M Associates as Field Inspector of Construction Projects. He cherished spending time with family and friends, cooking up a good meal on the grill including a tradition of “Red Meat Night”! Alex showed early interest as a young teen in his ability to work with his hands as a stone mason that led to his interest in construction. Alex’s dedication and commitment to the community were evident in his ceaseless charity work and passionate commitment to all projects he was involved in. Alex had friends everywhere.
He was one of life’s “fixers”; always the first person to lend a hand and help a friend. He was one of those rare people that kept long term friendships going through the years; a rare talent and tribute to the kind of person he was. He was a guy born to be a family man, and for most of his life his family was everyone he knew. He finally was at his happiest and found the family of his heart. Alex made the world a better place and he will be sorely missed. Alex was a member of the Middlesex Elks Club #1488 where he was a “Past Exalted Ruler”. In addition to his wife Donna, Alex is survived by his stepdaughter Sheira Kaffel and grandson Mason Cullen; his sister Lauren and her husband Greg and their children Sam and Ellen; his brother Tony, his wife Carolyn and children Aaron and Adam; his brother (Drew’s) children Alyssa and Derek. Alex is also survived by his stepdaughters Jennifer, April, and Dawn and grandchildren Nicole, Michael and Margot. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Drew. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to his viewing on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Ave., Dunellen from 4 – 8 PM and to his funeral mass on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at St John the Evangelist Church, 317 1 st Street Dunellen at 11:00 AM.
