Alexa Anabel Perez Melgar

Alexa Anabel Perez passed away at the courageous age of 13 in her home, surrounded by loved ones, on May 1st 2026. Alexa was a beautiful, gentle, God loving young lady. She had no issue praying for you in times of need and offering encouragement through Bible verses, even while going through her own battle with cancer. Like a true warrior, she never complained. Instead, she would ask her family if they were okay, offering comfort to her brothers by telling them to trust in God’s plans for her. She was a very intelligent student, being part of honors classes and even getting accepted into the Rutgers Scholars Program. When not participating in Church activities, she would be a very loving, though strict, older sibling, and spend her days drawing, reading, completing puzzles, or eating (specifically fries or ramen). Alexa, though struggling with her own health, was very selfless. Having won a wish from her favorite radio station, STAR 99.1, she chose to donate the winnings for new toys for her hospital of treatment, Saint Peter’s University Hospital. Alexa is survived by her mother Elbia Perez, stepfather Juan Rivera, brothers Erick and Juan Jerimaiah (the “gremlins” as she would call them), father Welner Melgar, grandmothers Ena Recinos and Gloria Melgar, grandfather Rigoberto Calderon, aunt Flabia Recinos, and uncle Reese Melgar. She touched the hearts of many, and will never be forgotten.

We invite you to join us in heaven’s celebration of its newest angel on Saturday, May 9th 2026, for an hour of service beginning at 3:00pm until 4pm, then an open viewing until 6:00pm at the family’s church, Misión Cristiana Elim Plainfield (225 E. 7th St., Plainfield, NJ 07060). Parking is limited, so please carpool if able to. Alexa will be put to rest at 10am on Monday, May 11th 2026, at Resurrection Cemetery (146 Metlars Lane, Piscataway, NJ 08854). All are welcome to join to send off our little princess. Due to cemetery policy on the amount of flowers allowed at her side, please consider a teddy bear that will be collected and donated to her hospital for treatment for the other children battling cancer and similar diseases. May God bless the families, friends, medical staff, and school staff for all the support they have provided during these hard times. We hope to see you give our princess the farewell she deserves.
